QUEEN'S DAUGHTER PUBLICATIONS LTD.
Melissa McCormick’s business background was established in the retail industry as owner of the “Silk Plant Warehouse” located in Windsor for 20 years, with a second
store in London. The downturn in the economy following 9/11, along with the change in consumer buying habits, forced her to close both locations within a three year period.
This turn of events allowed Melissa the time to fulfill a huge dream on her bucket list: writing about the worst and most highly publicized case of sexual assault in Detroit history. It was Melissa’s story.
In 2004, “The Queen’s Daughter” was launched with much public attention with her story featured on the front page of Saturday’s Windsor Star and a three page spread in the Detroit Free Press.
Since the release of her book, Melissa has appeared on many
television shows, radio programs and has travelled throughout Canada and the U.S. speaking to crisis centers, victim services, first responders and mental health associations. She is considered an expert in areas of sexual assault, PTSD, criminology and victimology.
She regularly speaks at Universities and colleges as well as high
schools in the Windsor area. Two major opportunities were initiated as a result. The first: the chance to help others
write and self-publish their books. Melissa’s company, Q.D. Publications Ltd. offers full publishing, print ready packages, editing, ghost writing and blogging services at an
affordable price. Her services also include book reviews and business consulting. The second opportunity produced a non-profit organization called The Queen’s Daughter
“Cause” which helps sexual assault victims with counselling and advocacy.
Melissa’s book soon became a best seller with the production of the award winning short film called “Determined” and the crime drama “Surviving Evil” featuring her story during a full hour of the show. It has aired in every country in the world except Canada.
Melissa has received emails of congratulations from the U.K., Japan, Spain, Mexico, Columbia, Argentina, Australia, Italy, China, and Greece, among others. Melissa is Past-President of the Women’s Economic Forum, Past President of the
Windsor and Essex County Sexual Assault Crisis Centre, Co-Founder of the Windsor Essex Literacy Leadership Student Program, Co-Founder and Past-President of Ladies Exclusive Alliance and a former Rotarian.
In 2015, Melissa was awarded an Honorary Doctorate degree from the University of Windsor and was asked to deliver a commencement speech to 1,000 graduating students from the Faculty of Education. She is also a recipient of the Athena Leadership Award given by the Windsor Chamber of Commerce, the Sparkplug Award given by the Women’s Economic Forum and the Walter Hadden Literacy Award given by the Rotary
Club of Windsor 1918.
